From Brit director Christopher Smith (Severance and Triangle), comes a brutal epic about a medieval plague. Man, it seems like we've been waiting on footage for this one for ages and now, thanks to onthebox we finally get a looksee.

Synopsis:
In a plague-ridden medieval England, Osmund (Eddie Redmayne), a young monk, is charged in leading the fearsome knight Ulrich (Sean Bean), and his group of mercenaries to a remote village where the inhabitants are unaffected by the deadly pestilence. Their quest is to hunt down a necromancer – someone able to bring the dead back to life.

Their journey is long and brutal; encountering deadly bandits, vicious witch-burnings and their own impeding sense of doom. Though it’s upon entering the village that their true horror begins…

Black Death stars a veritable who's who of British talent including Sean Bean, Carice Van Houten, Eddie Redmayne, David Warner, Kimberley Nixon and John Lynch.

As good as this movie may seem, it's going to be tough competition in this genre. Scott's "Robin Hood" will probably be at the top of the ladder. There's "Season of the Witch", "Centurion", "Eagle of the Ninth", "Ironclad", "Valhalla Rising", "Red Sonja"(if it was ever made), "Your Highness" (medieval comedy though), etc. I just hope this gets some good marketing. Not too many people seem to know about this, or Eagle of the Ninth and Centurion.

looks great.
i really hope 'raising the dead' bit was just fearmongering.. we have enough supernatural stuff and man's soul is dark enough as is

Ol' Sean Bean is more wooden than my front door, but Severance and Triangle were cool films so I'm in

Black Death is going to be a Horror Film the other films mentioned are not. Though, I guess Season of the Witch could be classified as Horror too.

great. this looks more gutsy than robin hood, better acting than in centurian, better set pieces and cinematography than iron clad and somehow more interesting than valhalla (ive seen it, was disappointed).

That's right, Z. Plenty of wood is needed to forge steel. The release date was changed for both the UK and the US - relegating the promotion into a conflict with Cannes. There had to be some political hi-jinks to undermine the premiere to a "B" movie status. Sorry the link in the marketing chain allowed this to happen. The plot is more history than horror - much broader appeal than cult.
