This year’s Directors' Fortnight selections featured a number of films that peaked my curiosity but few managed to get my attention as much as Jean-Paul Civeyrac’s promising Girls in Black (Des Filles en noir), the story of two girls who revel in chaos. Sign me up.

Here’s the official synopsis:

The story of Noémie and Priscilla, two 17-year-old girls from modest backgrounds, that harbour the same despair, the same disgust at the world and the same violence. These girls are a cause of concern to close relations and everyone around them, as they’re perhaps capable of anything.

Though a trailer is yet to find the light of day, a few clips have turned up and they suggest exactly what I expected, two girls wrapped up in their own world, with their own rules, damned be everyone else and if trouble arises, so be it. There are suggestions here that things could definitely get violent but they’re likely to get sexual first. Either way, I’m even more interested in seeing Civeyrac’s film now than I was before.

Three clips, complete with English subtitles, after the break.
