Say what you will about the lady Coppola, but I think she's developed an interesting, trendy proto-punk vibe to her work. Marie Antoinette for example was hard to pin down and could have easily been about NY debutantes in the 90s. And of course it doesn't hurt that one of my favorite bands, Phoenix, is featured in this trailer.

So anyway, Focus Features has released the movie trailer for Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere and it turns out it's a classy affair, that really shows a touching relationship between a father and daughter as its core. Color me interested.

Synopsis:
A bad-boy A-List actor stumbling through a life of excess while living at Hollywood’s legendary Chateau Marmont Hotel. His days are a haze of drinks, girls, fast cars and fawning fans. Cocooned in this celebrity-induced artificial world, Johnny has lost all sense of his true self. Until, that is, his 11-year-old daughter Cleo (Elle Fanning) unexpectedly shows up and unwittingly begins to anchor him.

I liked Marie Antoinette and The Virgin Suicides but I actively disliked Lost in Translation. That film did nothing for me. That all written down, she's still shooting 2 for 3 and as Jack would say, "That 'aint bad."

As for this, you had me at Stephen Dorff. Where did this guys go? And when did Elle Fanning grow up? Looks good.

I think I will love this one! Lost in Translation is one of my favourites and I like every one of Sofia Coppolas movies so far. They all have that special kind of feeling.

I'm not so sure about Sophia. Virgin Suicides was 'interesting', LIT was 'gentley amusing' and Marie Antoinette was 'deeply confused'. I've yet to fully enjoy any of her films and this one looks like a retread of a billion other movies. Kind of like Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach after a few joints when they're feeling sentimental.
