Earlier this year we caught a first glimpse of Jonathan English's 13th century warfare film Ironclad. We were pretty excited, after all the film boasts an all star cast led by James Purefoy and including Paul Giamatti, Richard Attenborough, Robert Carlyle, Bob Hoskins, Pete Postlethwaite, Brian Cox, William Moseley, Jason Flemyng and Kate Mara.

The first bit of footage which was cut together from material shot over the first two weeks of filming certainly looked promising even if it hadn’t gone through any post production. Now we have a first look at a clip of the finished product and it lives up to expectations. The story, about a group of Knights Templar who defend Rochester Castle against King John, promises blood and if this first clip is any indication, the blood will indeed flow.

The clip drops us into the heart of battle and a heated exchange between John’s army and the Knights. I love the intimacy of the hand held cam and the feeling of being “in the action” though I hope it’s used sparingly throughout the film. Can’t wait to see an official trailer!

Paul Giamatti should really play the tyrannical ass more often.

Clip and original sneak peek preview after the break.
