The Event – NBCs new sci-fi series debuts this Fall. The network has been pushing this show pretty hard, with constant promos all telling you that various things you see are NOT The Event. Which of course leaves you wondering what really is The Event?
NBC is pushing this show hard because it believes it has a hit on its hands, and after watching the pilot, I have to agree.
A lot have people have talked about this being the next LOST, and comparing it to that show. It’s a fair claim, and to be honest, The Event follows a lot of LOST’s storytelling techniques: characters who are more than they seem, flashbacks (sort of), and an element of the super natural or super science in contrast to the regular world. And while I think it is fair to compare this show to LOST to a point, The Event does a good job of standing on its own. I get no indication that this si some sort of LOST clone. It is its own story, and in many ways, occupies a grander scale than LOST, implying by the end of the pilot that genuine world changing things may be occuring.
A brief note on the flashbacks. While they aren’t flashbacks in the LOST sense, The Event does tell the story in the pilot by jumping back and forth along the timelines of the characters in the show, with the welcome addition of an actual timestamp, so the viewer knows exactly how recently some of these events occurred, making it easier to piece them together.
With any show of this nature, it’s obvious there is some conspiracy occurring, but whether or not such secrets are malevolent or benign is unclear. In fact, what occurs at the end of the Pilot may not even be The Event. I don’t consider this a spoiler, simply because as you watch the show, it is very obvious the story is building toward *something.* What actually happens I won’t say.
I found the characters in the show likable, entertaining, and with was interested enough in what was going on to care by the time I got to the end of the show. The sci-fi or supernatural aspect is just enough to keep me intrigued for the following episode. It’s definitely worth checking out.
Watch the show's promo after the break.

At the risk of spewing sacrilege, I didn’t get into Lost I found the story line to meandering. The problem I found with Fringe is it started with great promise but it took to long to get moving, and again a meandering series of story lines. I have no patience for Net Work TV, yeah this look good I’ve been to badly burned in the past I don’t think I’ll even give it a look. I’m curious to get the impression of anybody else.

anything that gets compaed in any way to LOST ibrings up visions of week after week of stories that go nowhere except to keep you coming back in hopes that the next episode will make some sense....seen enough of that sh*t already....you've "LOST" me already...I'll pass on this one...

I loved LOST, and I completely understand why many people did not drink the Kool-Aid...
But this show is apres-LOST and hopefully it has learned from LOST and more importantly all the failed clones of it.
It IS always refreshing to see any attempt at sci-fi on network TV, even failure is better than the endless rote of police procedurals, lawyer shows and Fuck Hospital.

This setup looks more similar to X-Files to me, than LOST. Or maybe more akin to Flash Forward. I'll take this ride.

Looks like typical politically correct garbage with all the usual white/CIA bad guys and noble blacks as the President and high-ranking military types. I guess we'll never see a white guy as president again. The Event is a non-event.
Cap (2 years ago) Reply
P.C. crap from the socialist controled media for the masses to try and sway the people into re-electing this, "President", for a 2nd term. Gina Davis, the hollywood left, and ABC tried this same stunt years ago when their was talk of hillery running for potus. It didn't work then either. "Those who dont learn from history, are doomed to repeat it" Wait for the series to come out on dvd (JUST in time for the election) and buy it when it drops in the discount dumpster-diver bin at your local dollar store

Trolls gotta troll. I'll give The Event some attention. Go back to Breitbart (I think it's german for 'butthurt').
Cap (2 years ago) Reply
I want to thank Chuck for valadating the points in my posting. Anytime those who don't agree with the "party line" they are vilified for having a different opion to divert attention from the subject at hand. Oh and chuck, in future, could you at least get the german reference right. Remember: it's the National "SOCIAIST" Germen Workers Party. Remember November: The NEW "N" Word!
bad dog (2 years ago) Reply
Cap, you're not being vilified for having a different opinion, you're vilified for being obnoxious. STFU and drink less tea. If we want to hear your deranged political views, we'll watch Fox.
chuck (2 years ago) Reply
Yeah Cap- the subject at hand is a TV show- not your butthurt teabaggery. Your trolling is the diversion. You and your ilk (painted with the broadest brush to include the left, the right, and all the political side-takers) are the true cancer that is killing America. Politics is a game and you sir are a willing pawn, serving the ends of a player with very little regard for you as an individual. OK you got me- feeding time is over. I ignore people like you all day on FARK but I never expect to see them here.
P.S. I like how you obviously white knighted yourself up there- transperent as wet vellum.

I normally don’t post twice on the same movie but the comments made by Cap and the other poster now referred to as Anonymous echoed the thoughts on the BBC web site when Survivors first aired. They thought the cast too PC and a little to inclusive having saw the first episode and a couple more I saw the point but I also saw the First Black Woman villain out side a major urban area. She did not have a pimp, nobody got mugged and the MF word was not used once quite a break though I thought.
In closing 24 that paragon of American Nationalism had a Black President.
May we see more Black Women Villains in future PA Epics. Villainy has been the domain of the White Man for far to long,
God Bless America God Bless Quiet Earth

Again I would like to thank chuck and now black dog for valadating my points in my past post. Again we see that when an oposing point of view is voiced we see the typical left-wing vilifacation, and trying to divert attention from the subject at hand. First Amendment works both ways for which I am most pleased to see here. Oposing points of view should always be welcome. Thank You again for your comments.
Remember: November The New "N" Word!!!

Not only is Cap an idiot but he's also a racist. Check your soapbox at the door douche nozzle.
Anonymous (2 years ago) Reply
Um. It's a tv show. Not a political conspiracy. Studios don't put together inclusive casts to be PC. They put them together to appeal to more viewers. They want ratings is all. Sheesh.
Not a Troll (2 years ago) Reply
"CAP" you need to GTF outta here, you know when you see people use the words "socialist" "communist", blah blah BS they are from another country. They make me sick and more proud to be an American. Dude get a life and worry about your own STPD country, OKAY!!!! You dumb A$$ Salsbury Steak eating elephant ears, african booty pathetic ignorant jack A$$ foreigner!!!!!!
chuck (2 years ago) Reply
The sad part of this whole thing is that there have been films covered here that I really wanted to discuss and hear other peoples views about but when I clicked on the comments there were tumbleweeds blowing through. Nothing. Now here comes some polititroll and boom- comments. Yawn... OK troll, here's your last morsel- I'm not validating your point. Your 'point' is that you're all butt-hurt because you saw a black man elected to the highest office in the land and now they're putting them on your TV. Just be honest. As for 'typical liberal'- I'm a country music songwriter born and raised in the South, I hunt and fish, I have the flag of the confederacy hanging in my garage, I voted for Bush the first time, I keep guns, I work a trade but I refuse to join a union, and at one time I was a supporter of the John Birch Society. I'm a proud redneck, but I have a flexible mind that can grow and I'm not a bigoted puppet like you. Keep voting, keep seeing everything in black and white, and keep being a victim. Just keep it somewhere else.
bad dog (2 years ago) Reply
Cap is right. Whenever a douche bag makes an ass out of himself being an obnoxious racist on a website about movies, you can be damned sure the Left will villify him as the idiot that he is. By the way, I don't see anywhere in the Constitution where it says you get to be an ass on this website. The First Amendment, which you obviously don't understand, does not guarantee that loud teabaggers get to spout off on any website they want--this is a private site and the site owners have the final word on what gets published here. Why the site owners haven't banned your dumb ass yet is beyond me.

WOW, what a show this must be to get this many comments. Regardless of Obama's color , Black, White? who knows? I really don't give a crap. He sucks as president no matter what color he is. In my life we've only had two presidents that were worth a damn, Reagan and Clinton. The rest are only puppets to who ever donates the most to their campaign. oh yeah, since we're already on the subject of politics. NO MOSQUE at ground zero!
bad dog (2 years ago) Reply
@uncleB: So the First Amendment applies only to Christians, I guess? You really don't understand this thing called the "Constitution of the United States," do you? I know it's really, really hard to understand, but there's this really important clause, see, that guarantees freedom of religion.
Unless, of course, you want the government to mandate a single religion, or otherwise get into the business of telling churches they can't build for political reasons. If so, you and Osama Bin Laden should go bowling, because you're just like each other.
And by the way, it's not a mosque, it's a cultural center, and it's not at ground zero, it's two blocks away from the old WTC site. And by the way, it's a place for moderate Muslims--the people we're trying to be friends with in the Middle East and here at home--and only a moron would confuse them with the people who attacked us. It'd be like me saying all Catholics are terrorists because of Timothy McVeigh.

who's the racist? I don't see that here?
uncleB (2 years ago) Reply
bad dog is the racist. He doesn't like blacks or muslims. oh, im sorry, i forgot Islam isn't a race its a religion regardless of its flawed and contradictory teachings. And yes the Cordoba house will have a mosque. it is constitutionaly legal, but if built it will be in very bad taste. If you dont agree thats your choice. you shouldn't call people "racist" just because their opinion differs from yours or they don't follow the same party that you follow. Your no different then all the other Islamic countries like Saudi Arabia that have no religous/political tolerence. Enjoy your intitlement programs while you can because come November they'll be a new sheriff in town running the show. I doubt very seriously bad dog is even american? probably somali muslim. Anyways this is my last post on the subject. Some people are just to stupid to argue with(bad dog)
bad dog (2 years ago) Reply
haha
I'm going to let uncleB's last post stand unchallenged, as it shows him for what he is, a pathetic little right wing troll begging for attention. "Blah blah blah evil liberals rule the world I'm so scared of brown people oh my god I wet my pants," etc. etc. My favorite part is where he rents some balls so he can lecture us about good taste.
Even if the Republicans gain some seats in November, you'll still be an ass, uncleB.

Wow, some of these people are real pieces of work. TV has favored white men for 70 years while vilifying blacks, women and other minorities. Now we get a few shows with a black president over the last few years and some white guys are just sick and tired of it. WOW, grow a spin and learn to live on the other side a bit.
Watch the show for the show and quit the political rants. I did not watch Lost, but I know a number of people did, and they liked it. I believe I would have liked it thought. I am a big fan of Fringe and liked the X-Files. I do enjoy mystery and supernatural because I believe there are many things that are not explained, or shared with the general public. I am giving the show a chance.
