[REC] masterminds Paco Plaza and Jaume Balaguero are splitting apart to bring us [REC] Genesis and [REC] Apocalypse in 2011 and 2012 respectively.

The projects have been acquired by Le Pacte and Wild Side Films for French theatrical and DVD distribution. It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to think that a U.S. distro deal could quickly be in line - particularly since [REC]2 was so fracking amazing. Genesis and Apocalypse were greenlit by Filmax Entertainment, one of Spain's leading production outfits, in May.

Plaza will direct the first film, [REC] Genesis, which returns to the origin of the infection that caused humans to turn in to demons. [REC] Apocalypse will be directed by Balaguero and will end the [REC] saga with the pandemic spreading to the outside.

Thanks to Dread Central for the scoop.

At least one modern horror franchise that seems to be going up, not down. Rec 2 was great. I hope Genesis and Apocalypse are even better.
