post apocalyptic zombies news horror The Hollywood Reporter is saying that premiere ratings for Walking Dead were enormous, delivering 5.3 million viewers and 3.6 million adults 18-49. Apparently its the largest demo audience for any series premiere on any cable network this year and the highest numbers for any series in AMC's history (sorry, Mad Men).
“It’s a good day to be dead. We are so proud of this series, its depth of storytelling and the remarkable talent attached,” said Charlie Collier, AMC’s president. “As the network dedicated to bringing viewers the best stories on television, we are so pleased to have the opportunity with The Walking Dead to raise the bar within this popular genre and continue our commitment to being the home of premium television on basic cable.”
“The Walking Dead is that rare piece of programming that works on so many levels. It is legitimately great storytelling that is not only highly entertaining, but incredibly thought provoking as well. People who are familiar with the comic books know what's coming, but suffice it to say, this is only the beginning of a long, intense, and powerful ride. Long live The Walking Dead,” said Joel Stillerman, AMC’s SVP of original programming, production and digital content.
I think it's safe to assume that Walking Dead won't be dying any time soon.
Have something you want to say about the series or its premier? Make a comment in our offical Walking Dead talkback thread.

Its good.
The intro with the zombiefied little girl getting shot in the head put down my fears of them holding back away from the gruesome nature of the walking dead. I hope they continue to produce it in that manner.
It would be nice if the director didnt hold back any scenes & it would be even better if AMC didnt censor anything.
The comic book series really is worth it. I eagerly look forward to every issue.
AMC did good.

Not very often does a tv series or movie with so much hype and anticipation match expectations but The Walking Dead did last night. The pilot "Days Gone Bye" was great on so many levels set, acting, gore, action, storytelling, etc... Even my mother 66yrs old called me today and says she liked it, now that is rare.

Reminds me of what the new 'Survivors' might have felt like if they hadn't employed a zombie to write it. Great atmosphere, poignant, meaningful scenes, intelligent use of environment. Fantastic!

Loved it. Really good, creepy and well done. I liked that a lot of the action took place during day. It feels like I have been waiting for this since the first time I saw Dawn of the Dead back in '84 and I must say it was well worth the wait...

Imagine you could shoot Desperate housewives, insert favorite mind boggling garbage, with the shotgun in the head, point blank, unsanctioned, even encouraged by the law to stop the spreading of thier the "disease"; how did you say exactly ( a bit edited ) ;) :"delivering 5.3 million viewers and 3.6 million adults 18-49. Apparently it would be the largest demo audience for any series premiere on any cable network any year!"
