South African director Christopher-Lee dos Santos’ feature film debut Eternity seems to fall somewhere between Blade and Underworld.

Billy is a vampire who falls in love with a human girl named Jenny. Jenny’s father happens to be a scientist working on a cure for HIV/AIDS who, accidentally, creates a serum that allows vampires to daywalk. The discovery sets off a war between the vampire clans with the traditionalists, led by Constantine, who believe the serum is a defamation of the blood and Borlak, a young vampire who wants to move the race out of darkness. It’s here that the film’s synopsis, available in much more detail at the official website, loses me because we then have Billy going up against the nasty sounding Borlak with no indication on how he fits into the equation beyond crushing on the human girl. I’m assuming we learn more of Billy’s connection with the traditionalists in the movie itself.

Plot details aside, I’m really impressed with what Santos has delivered. The film, shot on Canon 7D DSLR's over 19 nights in Johannesburg, has been picked up for distribution and is scheduled to open on December 24th.

As for the trailer, it’s a spiffy looking affair with a few good effects and a fair bit of promise.

Trailer after the break.

Christopher Lee Dos Santos is a young talent. SA cinema's viewer should be grateful to have such an artist.

Just watched it. Horrible. If puking on a canvas is called art, then this is artistically well done.
