We all remember how awesome Leon: The Professional was and we’ve yet to see a camaraderie between teacher and student that was quite as kick-ass and still poignant as the one between Leon and Mathilda. Plus, kids being turned into killing machines is always kind of awesome.
Now, Leon was different in that the assassin was reluctant to teach the young girl whereas the story in Joe Wright’s Hanna has the teacher, in this case Erik Heller (Eric Bana), as ex-CIA operative who raises his daughter Hanna (Saoirse Ronan) to be the perfect assassin. Hanna seems to be on a mission to eliminate a very specific person: Marissa Wiegler, an active CIA agent. The reasons for the target are, as far as the trailer and the film’s official synopsis are concerned, a mystery.
This is a change of pace for Wright who is best known for his period pieces and it looks like this time out, he’s actually hit on something good. Ronan is a good actress, the cast is loaded with other great actors and the trailer actually looks quite good. We’ll have to wait to see if the film actually manages to impress. I’m definitely excited to check it out.
Trailer after the break.

Looks great and like it could be a lot of fun.

promising. but the girl looks physically too weak to be so tough.

The Professional was one of the worst movies of all time.

Nope. The Professional was really good. And it made sense compared to our days in which small girls are kicking the ass of adult males. But we are already in la-la-lands.
Anyway, it looks good.

This looked really interesting. That Saoirse Ronan girl really has a bright future ahead of her.

Looks pretty cool. Like that actress.

There are not enough movies with Bana :-) I really like the feel. Hope they are able to stir away from the usual mistakes.

Looks like a fun movie. Gotta love flick that have chicks who are super assassins: La Femme Nikita, Kill Bill, etc.

Hmm. Seems a bit daft. Like SALT with a kid. But definitely fun.

Don't forget Hit Girl from Kick Ass. Wish we'd seen more of her and Big Daddy's lives and less of the title hero's.

And what sounds like a sweet soundtrack by The Chemical Brothers. Nice.

Children could probably quite easily learn those martial arts not based on brute force (hard) so their size/strength is irrelevant when 'kicking ass'. Trouble is, the moves used in this clip need strength to work. Thus, a pinch of salt all round but at least the wilderness stars in it - a much under-appreciated star of some movies, and a better actor in some others, like First blood ;)
And it'll be interesting too seeing how the primitive technology is used throughout. I'm sick of guns, guns, guns...

Interesting that Kate Blanchett is paired with
Saoirse Ronan since Saoirse may be the next Kate. Looks like an awesome movie.
