There was a time when all we had from this film was the shiny skull helmet shot you see to the right. Well now we've got more for you.
Sorry it's not much, but as we're all excited for Coscarelli's return to horror fantasy with his adaptation of David Wong’s book "John Dies at the End", we'll take (and share) anything we can get.
What we've got are set photos and some production designs from the production. Primarily "The Chinese Restaurant" and plans for the "Mall of the Dead."
Synopsis:
It's a drug that promises an out-of-body experience with each hit. On the street they call it Soy Sauce, and users drift across time and dimensions. But some who come back are no longer human. Suddenly a silent otherworldly invasion is underway, and mankind needs a hero. What it gets instead is John and David, a pair of college dropouts who can barely hold down jobs. Can these two stop the oncoming horror in time to save humanity? No. No, they can't.
John Dies at the end stars Chase Williamson, Rob Mayes, Paul Giamatti, and Clancy Brown. It is currently filming with a release date of 2012.

Man, I hope that's not the actual set for They China Food - that place is supposed to look like a Mexican restaurant, not a Chinese one.

The whole joke about They China Food was that it looked nothing like a Chinese place...

I agree about the Chinese food place. It's supposed to have a man riding a burrito. Also the scale of that mall is tiny. Google search "Rochester NY Medley Center" for reference pics of an abandoned shit hole mall.

They China Food! is a Mexican restaurant. Clearly the set director did not do his proper research.

i just caint wait. i love the book!

"clearly the set director didn't do his research?"
MOVIES are made from a script, not the source material. The book is not the movie and the movie is not the book. Don't set yourself up for disappointment.
If they wanted They China to be a Mexican Restaurant that now serves Chinese, I bet that's what would have been done.
I think the restaurant looks cool.

What is the skull picture for anyway? I don't remember that at all.

The chinese restaurant's joke probably wouldn't have worked as well visually. Especially since instead of being mentioned once at the start of the book and then forgotten about, the joke would be visible every time we return to that scene. You'd get sick of it quickly, like a shop with a pun for a name that you have to drive past every day.
