io9 [Film Festival 01.19.11] apocalyptic drama romance

What happens when you meet your one true love right before the whole world falls apart? Ewan McGregor and Eva Green's mysterious new flick Perfect Sense, directed by David Mackenzie, is two parts love story, one part post-apocalyptic horror.

The trailer really hides a lot of what's going down in the world, if you'd like to know more (and spoil a little of the mystery for yourself) here's the full...

Green plays Susan, an epidemiologist recently out of a relationship gone sour; McGregor is Michael, the charismatic chef who sweeps Susan off her feet and shows her that not all guys are a-holes. Sounds swell, right? And it would be… except for one tiny problem: At the same time Susan and Michael are falling for each other, a global pandemic is threatening to change the face of humanity forever.

And Susan, in her job as an epidemiologist, is right at the center of it all. When a truck driver in Glasgow experiences a sudden inexplicable crying fit and subsequently loses his sense of smell, Susan learns that more than 100 other people across Europe have been stricken in similar fashion. As more and more people around the globe begin to suffer these strange symptoms that first attack their emotions and then their symptoms, Susan and Michael are forced to try and weather the storm and find out how the human race might cope with such a pandemic.

We're very excited about this particular movie, and we can't wait to see how this mysterious epidemic will change the love story of the main characters. Perfect Sense will premiere in Sundance.

This way, by reading the synopsis:
"The story of two people who begin to fall in love as the world begins to fall apart.

Susan is a scientist. Michael is a chef. He takes a break from the kitchen heat in the alleyway below her apartment; she smokes a cigarette at the window above. He calls up for a light – the first spark in their passionate affair.

But the world is about to change dramatically. As love turns Susan and Michael’s lives upside down, people across the globe begin to experience
strange symptoms, which first affect the emotions then the senses, one by one.

Everything changes. But people laugh, they cry, they eat and drink, they go about their daily business. They adapt, they change, they cope, they live and they love – because life must go on. And so it does."

It was bloody ewans fault. He's only gone and dropped the test tube on the floor releasing the epidemic.
