Harmony Korine is infamous though I’ve never quite figured out why. I'm not much of a fan of his work though I liked his short Act the Fool (see it here), likely because it was only four minutes long.

Now Korine strikes again with another short film. Titled Umshini Wam, it stars Ninja and Yo Landi, members of the South African rap group Die Antwoord as wheelchair bound gangsters. It feels a bit like an extended music video and it’s hilarious, even if I can’t always make out what on earth they’re saying.

You don’t have to take my word for it though. The film, in its full 16 minutes of greatness, is after the break.

Big kudos to IFC’s Alison Willmore for the heads up.

Film after the break.

I too have never really gotten into the bizarre works of Harmony Korine. Though this peaked my interest, mainly due to the fact that I'd only just recently found out about Die Antwoord.

Ninja and Yo-Landi are enigmatic people, and have an unusual charm that I find compelling. Korine touched on this aspect of Die Antwoord's main protagonists, and created a very interesting and sweet tale.
