With all the shuffles around The Crow remake and no news in months, I’d (thankfully) forgotten the news that a remake was even in the works. Alas, Hollywood isn’t one to let something with as much potential as The Crow just die but there is something very surprising about the most recent news announcement from the film’s production camp.

It seems as though Relativity has found a man to helm the project and that man is none other than Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. Now, this is not be the first time Fresnadillo has taken on a favoured franchise. The Spaniard surprised quite a few folks when he delivered a sequel to 28 Days Later which was just as good (and in some circles it is even argued that 28 Weeks Later is the better film) as the original and now he’s given the task of re-invisioning an iconic title for today’s audience.

Though I’ve been wholeheartedly against a return to this well, I’m not at all upset about Fresnadillo being assigned with leading this charge though I’m still not sure who the studio is trying to deliver this film to. Alex Proyas’ film is good but it too had limited appeal and there’s always been a sense that the only reason it’s been as widely seen as it has been is because of the drama surrounding the production.

I’ve never read the comic book and am not sure what, if anything, new Fresnadillo and his team can take from the source material for their film but I’m definitely curious to see how this pans out. Now we just have to wait for word on who will reprise Brandon Lee’s iconic performance. Whoever it is, they’re in for a hell of a ride.

How do you feel about Fresnadillo directing The Crow reboot and perhaps more importantly, who do you think would make a great Eric Draven?

Hollywood is so pathetic all these remakes! They remade Let the Right One in I almost puked!
This film is just not old enough for a remake...no scratch that the first film doesn't need a remake. There are tons of stories out there they can do something new

Since Fresnadillo is behind it, I'm kinda exited. Also, why get so worked up about remakes? The originals are safe, a remake is not going to delete/replace it. And why not welcome new people to re-tell a story?

Anyway, fan of the original, fan of Fresnadillo. Will wait and see.

Some art pieces cannot be remade, and some should just be left to be what they are - cult.
By any account this will be a failure, as no one can do it ever the way it was done the first and the last time.
They can assign anyone they want, it will be hollow without Brandon.

The original Crow was pretty damn amazing. The sequels were pretty damn awful. Getting all upset over remakes is pretty stupid. No one's coming to your house to break the original dvd/vhs, so get over it. No one is making you see the remake, or give them money, or press, or anything else for that matter. If you don't like it, ignore it. Job done. What's so hard about that?

What is so hard, is that you have to be really a mindless idiot to rehash the stuff already done, unless you want to profit from your own lack of originality, and take credit for the work already done.
As if though all the ideas and comics, books, stories or events in ths world were filmed, that you have to start over with the remade versions.
Plain and simple exploitation due to lack of imagination and creativity.
Sure a new twist here and there but rehash.
It is not tha point that someone forces you to watch it, the point is that it is stupid for the entertainment industry to rerun movies and ideas.

If they reboot "The Crow", it´s really, really time to finally get a 20 or 30 million dollar "Razor" comic-adaption (I hope somebody remembers this character...) done, which would be, in my book, far more interesting. Also, not a remake, not a rebbot, something new....

The original holds a special place in my heart. It was one of those movies my brother and I loved watching. Now who should play Eric Draven...

the original was garbage. It would be nice to see this done in proper respect to the graphic novel series.

There a difference in doing different films based on the same story instead of total remake.

After the fact people will choose which one they think is the best.

@John, Sorry but while your comment was aimed at mine, you really didn't answer it in way that makes sense at all. The question I asked was, "If you don't like it, ignore it. Job done. What's so hard about that?"
