"Life is only on Earth... and not for long."

Zentropa has debuted the official trailer for Lars von Trier's new film Melancholia, about the end of the world. The strong cast includes Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg Kiefer Sutherland, Alexander Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Stellan Skarsgård and Udo Kier.

Von Trier is one of Europe's most prominent directors having spearheaded the Dogme 95 movement (which he now rejects) and created some of Denmark's most indelable films like Breaking the Waves, Dancer in the Dark, Dogville and, most recently, the extremely controversial Antichrist (review)

Synopsis:
Justine (Dunst) and Michael (Skarsgård) are celebrating their marriage at a party in the home of her sister (Gainsbourg) and brother-in-law. Meanwhile, the planet Melancholia, is heading towards Earth...

Magnolia Pictures will distribut Melancholia in the US, but it doesn't have a release date yet. The film will likely to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this summer.

Check out the trailer for Melanchilia (via: Firstshowing) after the break.

Lars von Trier goes Tarkovsky on this one.
I actually glad, he is over with Dogma, since Dogma was imho pretty pathetic and narcisstic.

@Merzmensch I assume you mean Dogme 95 and not dogma, but Von Trier is probably finished with that as well.
