Seriously, this had me at "From the Writers of "Taken"." Honestly, I don't need much more of a selling strategy and with those five words you know this is going to be a big dollop of fun.

Written by favourite French dude Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen and directed by Olivier Megaton (now there's a name!) of Transporter 3 fame, Colombiana stars Zoe Saldana as Cataleya, the titular character who, after witnessing her parents' death as a small girl, grows up to be a “stone-cold assassin.”

Hello awesome! A gorgeous killing machine, Cliff Curtis as her mentor, Michael Vartan as the love interest (it’s Besson. Of course there's a romantic angle… even if it is only crammed in there) and the great Jordi Mollà as, what else, some bad guy.

It's been far too long since Besson and crew have served up a girl kicking butt and I’m surprised it's taken this long for someone to cast Saldana in this role (though admittedly she’s played variations on the theme in previous films).

Colombiana will be serving all sorts of crazy action starting September 2nd.

Trailer after the break.

I predict the guy that keeps saying "never forget where you came from" was really in on some plot to make her an assassin. Maybe her parents aren't even dead... or he planned it all.

I love Le Femme Nakita/The Professional/Taken but this looks a little too cliche....these guys need to come up with some new ideas
