French director Roland Edzard is getting quite a bit of attention for his feature film debut which recently premiered at Cannes. The story of a troubled young man who leaves home and finds solace in the woods with a couple whose idea of a good time is loading their shotguns and hunting for the weekend, THR said The End of Silence (La Fin du Silence) "makes "Winter's Bone" look like the Upper East Side." Considering the grimness of Winter’s Bone, this certainly sounds promising.

Reading further, that seems to be the only good thing to be said for Edzard's film which apparently gets lost in its story but my curiosity is already peeked and it's going to take more than a few mediocre reviews to dissuade me from seeing the film. No trailers kicking around yet but there is a clip from the film that shows promise as Jean takes aim at a few apparently innocent folks from the cover of the trees. There’s nice tension in this clip and the look on actor Franck Falise's face is strained and weary.

Clip after the break.
