Spending the summer with your brother with no parents to tell you what you can and can't do sounds like a heck of a good time but it's not exactly all it's cracked up to be. Or is it?

Director Bouli Lanners explores this situation in his new film The Giants (Les geants) which played at the Cannes Director's Fortnight where it took home the Art Cinema & SACD Prizes. It's the story of brothers who are abandoned by their mother at the family cottage. With no money and no one to look out for them, it looks like the summer is going to be a bust for Zak and Seth - until they meet Danny, a local teenager who leads them on a summer adventure.

It's unlikely this will end like Stand by Me but I can't help myself, I love these movies about being young and doing stupid things and discovering something new about yourself. Looks like there's a fair bit of self discovery going on here.

Trailer after the break.
