Young, Russian and full of ambition, new filmmaker Maksim Dyachuk is hoping Spores will be his Monsters and launch him as a filmmaker so that his scifi creature feature Spores [aka СПОРЫ] can become a trilogy. I think it's fair to say most filmmakers have these aspirations, but in his conversation with Undead Backbrain he seems fairly confident that he's got what it takes to make an effective sci-fi/horror thriller.

Synopsis:
A group of youthful friends go out of town on an outing and stumble upon an old Soviet factory. The factory has been long abandoned and is derelict. It interests them and they decide to explore and to document what they find. But their curiosity brings them face-to-face with unimaginable danger. It transpires that alien spores have come to Earth on a meteorite, and that these spores quickly multiply and take on a monstrous form once they touch the ground. Who among the group of threatened humans will fight? Who will survive? And what will the ultimate outcome of this terror be for the planet?

You'll find the trailer for Spores after the break. I wish I could tell you the CGI lives up to the promotional art, but unfortunately it's not as detailed as I would have liked. Seems to me that were Gareth Edwards chose to let tastefully integrated visual FX accentuate his story, Dyachuk is trying to just throw as much crazy creatures at us as possible going so far as unleashing some dragons (?).

Post-production work on Spores is almost completed, and the film will be available in November.
