I think we're beyond the point of speculation in terms of Ridley Scott's Prometheus and its connection to the Alien universe and franchise. What was originally thought to be a prequel has morphed into something altogether different according to a leaked synopsis (which I'll only link to and not reprint here to save some of you from major spoilers). Fox was quick to say that the plot was "way off", but if you read it and then read their "official synopsis" below you can see that it doesn't do much to argue the point.
Official Synopsis:
Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life's ultimate mystery.
Some behind the scenes images were snapped back in June, but they didn't really give us any sense of connection between the film and the bony, slimy world of Alien. Now however, we have some new set photos which I think prove once and for all, for those who were still on the fence anyway, that Prometheus does indeed take place in the same world.
It's worth noting that Prometheus is Ridley Scott's first science fiction film since 1982 when he unleashed Blade Runner on the world. Surprising I know, but Scott have seemed to prefer historical pics rather than future ones.
Prometheus is scheduled to hit cinemas June 8th, 2012.
Sorry gang, we were asked by 20th Century Fox to take the photos down under penalty of legal action.
