Vanguard Cinema will release EMPTY, a chilling new indie dealing with "the very real threat of a worldwide gas crisis" on DVD and across multiple Video On Demand platforms July 26, 2011.

EMPTY was directed by C.S. Drury & written by C.S. Drury and Aaron Gorvine.

Synopsis:
Charming young slacker Dell Hansard (Jon Carlo) is in love with beautiful Piper (Ashley C. Williams). He makes an impromptu proposal on a weeklong camping trip, but Piper, the daughter of a wealthy businessman hesitates. On their way home they stop at a gas station, and are surprised to find signs reading "closed indefinitely due to the gas crisis.

Having been away for a few days the young couple does not realize the world is in the grip of crisis. They are stuck in the middle of nowhere and soon find out they must fend for their lives. They sleep at a nearby abandoned motel where a manipulative manager swindles them out of their last dollars. The crisis worsens when they are robbed of everything valuable they have. This is more than a crisis, the young lovers have returned to a world that has been completely turned on its head. This may well be the end of the world as they know it, and they never knew what happened. Can they stick together and survive, or is their love not strong enough for the challenge?

Ok first it was “Tooth and Nail” now this I have to agree with Mike this is a dumb plot. Oil is not going to suddenly vanish and an “Oil Crisis” is not going pop up out of the blue. Most of you are to young to remember or simply wasn’t around but the Oil crisis of the late 1970’s didn’t turn into Road Warrior with Platform Shoes, and Leisure Suits. Stop insulting my intelligence the MSM and Washington does that enough.

NOT THE SAME THING I'M AFRAID...



Eh, that was not a crisis about 'depleting' oil though, that was a crisis 'created' by OAPEC when they proclaimed an oil embargo to punish the US for supplying the Israeli military.

The crisis nowis much more permanent. 'Peak Oil' is actually about cheap oil running out, where it finally becomes more expensive to extract the oil too deep down in the Earth for it to be worthwhile, as in it requires more energy to get it out than is generated by the extracted oil.

That I'm afraid has happened, the US reached their own production peak in the 1970's -as predicted would happen- Saudi Arabia and the world 'officially' reached their peak in 2005/2006, since then world production has diminished and will never climb back to those levels which means the world economy can no longer grow without increasing energy pumped into the system and all political systems are propped up by the 'promise' of growth.

Plus to compound the problem no alternative fuel source can replace the energy output ratio of oil and most of them require oil to function in the first place. All governments now recognisethis privately and some publically.

Why do you think there are multiple wars in the last oil-rich countries?

However the surprise portrayed in this film that there is suddenly 'no oil' left at the fuel stations is rather naive. It will be pretty apparent if the oil stops flowing before you ever get to the fuel sations and it will be incremental for a short while as the oil prices shoots up beyond affordability.

Judge I stand corrected the catalyst for the “Oil Crisis” of the 1970 was the Arab Oil Embargo a response to the 1973 Arab Israeli War. Your explanation of Peak Oil, and the alternatives was spot on. I’m an avid listener of Financial Sense News Hour pod cast. that’s where I learned about Peak oil as well as James Howard Kunsler, Mike Rupert The Automatic Earth and others, as well as a series of very good documentaries.
The issue I have with the film is the suddenness of no gas. Barring some Black Swan event in Middle East all the Peak Oil descriptions I’ve heard entails a rising prices, a diminished supply. Societies levels of complexity drops accordingly, people abandon the suburbs for the cities, rising crime, disease, political and social instability (you get the picture). I think anywhere in that time line would make a far more compelling movie, than suddenly “No Gas” and everyone suddenly going Deliverance on the next guy. I’m not saying it won’t happen, and yes I know it’s a movie, I guess I’m looking for a little more originality.

Kunstler and et al are all rocks of sense when it comes to peak oil but yeah this film is a naive farce wit it's 'phantom' oil premise.

Peak Oil? Suddenly out of gas? Costs more to pump? Sorry. It will never cost more to pump when they are willing to raise prices to compensate.

Do you understand anything about money or resources?

If it's too expensive to pump, it's too expensive for any 'joe' with a car to afford and therefore too expensive to ship food round the world, fertilise fields, run power-stations etc. The less there is of something that's desirable/necessary for living in our current world infrastructure, the less it's available to 'us' and the more it becomes 'exclusive'. This has applied to any resource since the beginning of human-kind and if there's no food at the supermarkets because the oil needed to produce fertiliser and fuel the farming machinery there'll be political/social collapse, why do you think 'cats' smarter than us are warning us, documenting it, oil companies publishing it in their annual reports and governments ignoring it?



I assume you're independently wealthy considering your opinion?

anyway Increasing the money supply just makes money worth less too.
