Marina Antunes [Celluloid 07.14.11] Canada zombies movie news comedy gallery

The last time we caught up with GravyTrain team of April Mullen and Tim Doiron, the duo had just released their follow-up to Rock, Paper Scissors: The Way of the Tosser, a buddy cop comedy titled GravyTrain (review) on DVD. They were a little guarded on sharing details on their upcoming projects but no longer.

Shot entirely in Stereoscopic 3D, Dead Before Dawn will not only be Canada's first full-length, live action, 3D feature; it will also introduce a new breed of zombies: zemons! The adventure comedy will unfold as a group of college kids accidentally unleash an evil curse that causes people to kill themselves and turn into Zombie Demons, aka zemons.

With a cast which includes Mullen (who is also directing) and Doiron along with Brandon Jay McLaren ("The Killing"), Kevin McDonald ("Kids in the Hall"), Ellen Dubin ("Napoleon Dynamite") and Rossif Sutherland (High Life (review)), the film is currently in production in Niagara Falls, Ontario and we're thrilled to have a few first look photos from the set!

I'm not a huge fan of 3D but I must admit I'm excited to see what Mullen and Doiron have up their sleeves. If nothing else, this is going to be a wacky golden nugget of zombie comedy. We'll be bringing you more as production continues but for now, check out the first batch of photos below.

So we're just going to totally forget Brian Keene's novel The Rising, a book about demons possessing the dead and coming back as zombies? Plus one could argue that Rec 1 & 2 are zombie demon movies.

It's a new breed of zombie demons, shot in Canada and in 3D, for the big screen. So yes, while there are lots of zombie and demon zombie material out there, this is actually something new. Which, in itself, is hard to come by! I can't WAI!!!

That MULLEN can do no wrong.... I mean ..really, indie with a f*!@*ing flare .. and the courage to take it to the next level = 3D ... She is by far Canada's brightest star.
