agentorange [Celluloid 07.22.11] movie trailer news scifi thriller

A four minute trailer has appeared for Andrew Niccol's scifi thriller In Time, formerly titled "Now" and also "Im.mortal." I'd say the film about people who can't live past 25 is a clear blend of Gattaca and Logan's run... and that's a nice prospect considering those are two of my favourite films.

You'll know Niccol from his past great films like Gattaca and Lord of War and he is also attached to direct Stephanie Meyer's The Host adaptation.

Synopsis:
In the future people stop aging at 25 and must work to buy themselves more time, but when a young man finds himself with more time than he can imagine he must run from the corrupt police force to save his life.


In time stars Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried.

The film hits theaters October 28, 2011.

Maybe they stay the age they were when the system was first introduced.

The other technology in the world doesn't seem that advanced so it could be maybe 2030-2040.

Someone back me up here. I remember maybe about 7-8 years ago watching a movie or tv show about a near future earth where people are born with time. The time was used as currency and could be transferred and read out on a small device they would carry with them. This movie defiantly shares a few ideas from that. I can't remember the show or movie at all. I can only remember one seem where a girl is in a casino or something and she was gambling with her time. She losses a bet and runs to a person asking for some more time. She runs out of time and dies her boyfriend arms. Very Twilight Zone or Outerlimits but can't remember the name.

Also a bit reminiscent of Harlan Ellison's "'Repent, Harlequin!' Said the Ticktockman", isn't it? But nobody tell Harlan....

Anyway, Niccol means I'll be there Day One.

You get free time till 25, then have to buy it to age past then?

Also, saw the other movie LL mentioned. Only remeber that scene as well. Sort of Darwin in action.. leave it well alone, you live for a long time... play with it (and loose), and your freinds need to find cupboard space for all your estate...

I remember the episode LL is talking about too. I believe it was Outer Limits. I loved that episode and concept of time being used as currency. This movie seems to take this concept a step further. The OL episode did start with a protagonist also running out of time after he lost a bet in a casino. The premise is that you do get a certain amount of time when you're born. I think the concept of time=money is brilliant. Makes you work harder or you die.

Don't count on this one EVER making it to a theatre. Harlan Ellison is suing the studio and everyone over 3 inches tall associated with this movie, which is pretty much a blatant ripoff of one of his books.....and several people who are knowledgeable in such things agree.

Harlan's suit demands that ALL copies and the original film be destroyed before it see release. Knowing Harlan, and the fact that the movie IS an almost perfect copy of his work, this is one that will go down in history of film
