I don't know what you were all expecting from Francis Ford Coppola's new film TWIXT (originally "Twixt now and Sunrise"), but I'm pretty sure it wasn't this gothic. Besides Tetro, I haven't been impressed with many of Coppola's recent films and this looks no better. Good idea and a good cast, but the execution looks amateurish.

Synopsis:
A writer with a declining career arrives in a small town as part of his book tour and gets caught up in a murder mystery involving a young girl. That night in a dream, he is approached by a mysterious young ghost named V.

He's unsure of her connection to the murder in the town, but is grateful for the story being handed to him. Ultimately he is led to the truth of the story, surprised to find that the ending has more to do with his own life than he could ever have anticipated.

Twixt stars Val Kilmer, Elle Fanning, Bruce Dern, and Ben Chaplin.

The film is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

wow. This sucks, this is from the man who gave us The Godfather, The Conversation and Apocalypse Now and the best he can do these days is single camera DV movies that look cheap and have bad CGI. I am ashamed of Coppola.

I'm curious to see this. I think it's Coppola going back to his roots with Corman and Dementia 13. While I agree that it doesn't look as sumptuous as his previous films, we have to consider how filmmaking has changed since Coppola began. If you don't change with it, you stagnate. Fair play to Coppola for not giving up.

Coppola obviously is wishing to give us a champagne movie on a beer budget. I'm intrigued as it looks like a decent blend of fantasy, black comedy and absurdism.
