Marina Antunes [Celluloid 08.29.11] movie trailer news short thriller drama



Make-up effects guru Paul Hyett who has worked on a number of Neil Marshall's films (not to mention a few others featuring Michael Fassbender – these connections amuse me) along with such fare as Ironclad (review) and The Eagle, is making his directorial debut with a short thriller than looks absolutely fantastic.

The Black Site stars Anna Walton as Lindsay, an army intelligence officer who is trying to return to a normal life after her tour of Iraq however, readjustment is proving difficult. She keeps having nightmares and believes that they may have something to do with her time on deployment but her mind has shut out the details of her time in service. "As clues surface as to the exact nature of her conditioning in the psychological warfare unit Lindsay's sanity unravels and she descends into a world of deceit, schizophrenia and murder leading to a shocking and savage ending."


Not only do I like the effects, the opening scene which transforms into a prison cell is fantastic, I love the fact that we have a woman who may well have been responsible, suggested by the trailer at least, for one of the ugliest of jobs: information gathering via horrific means.

I'm disappointed to find that this is only a three minute short (!) but I'm hopeful that we may get a full length feature from Hyett at a later date and if we're lucky, maybe it'll expand on this story. My only complaint: the use of Hans Zimmer's inception score is distracting as hell. Not the best music selection.

never have a seen a throat cut that way, I was quite surprised

Meh. Tired old premise. The throat cut was nice, but him being a makeup fx artist, I would expect nothing less. The movie brings nothing new in terms of story, however. Lighting is nice, though.
