Pedro Almodovar's new kinky plastic surgery shocker The Skin I Live In has been getting rave reviews from fests and now it looks like we'll finally get a chance to check it out for ourselves. The Spanish film is based on Theirry Jonque's 2005 book, "Tarantula" and stars the all but forgotten Antonio Banderas in what is supposed to be quite the performance.

Synopsis:
Ever since his wife was burned in a car crash, Dr. Robert Ledgard, an eminent plastic surgeon, has been interested in creating a new skin with which he could have saved her. After twelve years, he manages to cultivate a skin that is a real shield against every assault. In addition to years of study and experimentation, Robert needed three more things: no scruples, an accomplice and a human guinea pig. Scruples were never a problem. Marilia, the woman who looked after him from the day he was born, is his most faithful accomplice. And as for the human guinea pig…

Sony Pictures Classics opens the film in limited release on October 14.

The description is more interesting than the trailer. When I think of a skin that is defensible against all assaults and an evil genius, I was kind of hoping for bullets, flames, acid and maybe even a Rebecca Black song.
