Lionsgate has released the full trailer for their most expensive production - the adaptation of Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games. I don't think anyone has been harder on this production than me, but I'll be the first to say I'm intrigued. I still think Jennifer Lawrence (and the entire cast, really) is far too old, and I'm no fan of Gary Ross, BUT the production design clashing the truly garish and gaudy with the destitute masses is intriguing and the dusty and harshly lite cinematography is not what I was expecting.

Synopsis:
Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love. THE HUNGER GAMES is directed by Gary Ross, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel, the first in a trilogy published by Scholastic that has over 16 million copies in print in the United States alone, has developed a massive global following.

The Hunger Games stars Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bones), Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci, Lenny Kravitz, and Donald Sutherland.

The Hunger Games opens March 23, 2012.

Better than I expected. I like that the trailer is mostly limited to the story leading up to the games. Will be interesting to see how much time is actually spent in the field.

I never read the book. So all I see is another fight to the death and everyone watches on tv movie. But this time with kids.

The fan made productions on youtube look more dark and gritty as expected apart from the big budget film that we have here. I swear this is just a rip off of battle Royale that the author may have watched one night and did their version.

So this is a remake of Running Man and Battle Royale mixed into one? Very unimaginative but I'm in .. lol

Good luck with another pointless movie that is also a blatant copy of Battle Royale. Anyone know if any actual real films are slated soon? Something on a Memento or No Country For Old Men tip? I haven't seen one of those in a while, although J Edgar wasn't bad. Would be nice to have a few more rather than this twilight-in-disguise nonsense.

For all the disenfranchised Battle Royal fans out there, we dedicate our parody: "The Drinking Games"

We poked fun at the age of the cast as well, but AgentOrange came to it first.
