This looks amazing. This first trailer for Joss Wheddon and Drew Goddard's (Cloverfield) long lost The Cabin the Woods has me seriously wondering why it was shelved for so long. Because man, it looks like the greatest cabin in the woods movie ever and, dare I say it, potentially the Evil Dead of a new generation of savvy scifi horror fans.

Synopsis:
A group of friends at a cabin retreat scratch the surface of something so massive and horrific that they can only begin to fathom it as time quickly runs out.

That synopsis does not even begin to convey the crazy scifi, horror, monster insanity that's going on here. My only reservation is that it's all in their heads because there is a scene where they're getting gassed, but somehow I doubt it.

Check it out!

Fans of Whedon's will see many familiar faces in the cast that includes Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Chris Hemsworth, Fran Kranz, Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchison, Brian White, and Amy Acker.

Every time someone hypes a movie to this sort of level you think "my god, this is going to be another Memento. I'm so excited." and then the trailer comes out and .... it's some mysterious types in a control rig rigging a cabin with booby traps. So basically SAW in a cabin. This isn't really looking like the film that is going to 'redefine the genre' etc. Why am I so underwhelmed? I'll still see it, but just saying ... you lot (horror fans) have some pretty low standards the way you get excited about mediocre ideas. Am I being too harsh? I just want something fresh to make me say 'fuck yeah!' like the first time I saw Battle Royale.

Yeah - i.e. something fresh and original. Which this film sadly doesn't appear to be.

Looks like someone saw the Osterman Weekend with Rutger Hauer and decided to switch it to some dumb teenagers.
