Here's the trailer for Peter Jackson's upcoming The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey which is due in theatres next Christmas 2012. For fans of Lord of the Rings it certainly feels like deja-vu - almost as if we're seeing footage from the original trilogy, but that just tells me Jackson was perhaps the right man for the job and the five films will feel seamless.

Interesting to note that Guillermo Del Toro is given a screenplay credit.

The cast for the film includes Ian McKellan, Andy Serkis, Orlando Bloom, Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett and Christopher Lee. Martin Freeman will play the title role of Bilbo Baggins, and the new cast includes Richard Armitage and Graham McTavish.

“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” will have its theatrical release Dec. 14, 2012.

“The Hobbit: There and Back Again” will be released Dec. 13, 2013.
