I initially thought the idea of Manson starring in his first film was profound until I got a look at the horrendous poster art. However, we'll continue with this report after a short break to say we hope Manson's Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll will move from figment to celluloid.

Directed by Rob Walker who credits Metropolis maestro Fritz Lang for this dark vision, Manson stars as a vampire (surprise) alongside Malcolm McDowell and Balthazar Getty. It's shooting in Hollywood and Prague with a tentative release sometime in 2013.

Here's a rundown: Music industry investigative journalist Paul Shaye (Getty) goes on the hunt for flamboyant rock star and vampire Darcy Manning (Manson) in an effort to avenge the death of a friend murdered by the musician. In his search, Shaye is caught up in a whirlwind of danger, deception, and violence, as Manning unleashes his minions, and his own bloodlust, upon the protagonist. The film is set against the backdrop of the wild world of Hollywood rock and roll.

oh man, this sounds utterly painfully unoriginal and dull. I honestly was hoping for a bit more from manson, even though I'm no fan. I mean, isn't he producing (or was at least) Jodorowsky's new film? He also has worked with David Lynch on Lost Highway! And now he's making low-rent rock star vampire films? Sigh.

A glance at that image and I thought at first that it was a sequel to "Ghosts of Mars".
