We've discussed the increased fetishizing of VHS here before, and this documentary proves the resurgence has legs. I'd come across this project before, but this is the first time I've seen the trailer.

As someone who grew up in the heyday of video stores, I too find myself mourning their (supposed) demise and the fact that I never visit them that much anymore. Then again, the democratization of titles has made me waste a lot of money on some real stinkers.

About:
The introduction of home video had a massive impact on culture, business, and the development of media. The film-going public had unprecedented control over their viewing schedule, burgeoning filmmakers had inexpensive tools with which to create, and a new business was formed that expanded the reach of an already exploding industry. Videotape redefined the way modern society interacts with media. REWIND THIS! aims to be the definitive account of the home video revolution and a showcase of its continuing legacy.

The group behind the film are on Kickstarter (who isn't these days), but it sounds like with, or without your support these guys have recorded a lot of great footage. I hope we get a chance to see the whole thing.
