It's hard to believe that it was four years ago that we first reported that Jay and Seth Vs. The Apocalypse could potentially be a feature. Just goes to show how long it takes to get backing for projects to get off the ground - even ones as clearly earth shattering as this one.

The news now is that Sony is negotiating to finance and distribute the end-of-the-world comedy which would be Seth Rogen's directorial debut. Rogen wrote the feature with his longtime partner Evan Goldberg who is responsible for the original story.

Now, onto this title change, which is a new development. The film, originally called Jay and Seth Vs. The Apocalypse has been changed to The Apocalypse seemingly because the cast has ballooned from being just Jay Baruchel and Seth Rogan to also include James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson who will all play themselves as they are stuck in Franco’s apartment in Los Angeles facing an apocalypse. Apparently the Sony sees potential in cramming the post-modern comedy with additional cameos. Not sure how I feel about that actually. It seemed to work in Zombieland when Bill Murray showed up, but I think if a bunch more celebs showed up it would have been a little over the top.

Check out the original short:
