quietearth [Celluloid 02.04.12] Austria drama

A woman wakes up one morning to find herself trapped behind an invisible wall with only a dog, a cat, and a cow. Based on the best selling novel by Marlen Haushofer which has been translated into 17 languages, the story seems to revolve around themes of emancipation and social criticism. All that side, we reported on this 3 years ago and have been eagerly awaiting it since. While you're right in guessing their will be little dialogue, there seems to be a large amount of narrative as she diaries her ordeal. We have a lacklustre trailer but an awesome nightmare clip of the wall below.

Die Wand will premier at Berlinale.


Can someone translate for us?

A woman joins a couple on a trip to a hunting lodge in the mountains. When evening comes, her friends go the pub in the valley and the woman stays behind with the dog. When the couple does not return the next morning the woman sets out for the village and makes an alarming discovery: an invisible wall, behind which there appears to be no sign of life, now separates her from the rest of the world. Left behind with a dog, a cat and a cow, she must try to survive alone in the forest. She keeps a record of her thoughts, her fears and the hardship she suffers although nobody might ever read her outpourings.
