The Hollywood Reporter says that Damon Lindelof (co-writer of Prometheus) has been brought in to do massive rewrites on the World War Z while it awaits 6 weeks of reshoots. Apparently it sucks. Just read our script review. It's nothing like the book.

Seeing as Lindelof worked on Prometheus and they say the plot on it wasn't that great, I think he should leave Max Brook's story the hell alone.....

Ugh. Now that is not something I am happy to hear. Lindelof has his particular methods which are very suitable for a decently paced series of shows, but as Prometheus shows not without risks.

Here's to hoping they only use Lindelof for widening character views. Then again, in Prometheus he turned most of them completely shallow.

This might sound like a really silly question, but has this guy read the book? Seeing that Prometheus is not setting the house on fire I wonder is this choice really wise or is this just more Hollywood flavor of the week riding in the save the day?

If he didn't already have The Walking Dead. World War Z might make a good TV show.

They need to leave the book's storyline alone, that or they should change the name of the movie to something else since it's not from the book.
I get a feeling this is a trainwreck in the making, with 6 weeks of reshooting that's never a good sign for a major budget picture.
Just another zombie movie look alike to cash in as quickly as possible.

If you want to leave the book's storyline alone, don't hire Lindelof for the rewrite. He's got a keen eye on making people think it will be the epic story, but will turn it a story. With just allusions to the actual story.

I can't wait till an interview shows up with his Big Thoughts :P

I think we all knew this movie was not going to live up to the book. All we can hope for is an entertaining zombie flick with a passing resembelance to Brooks masterpiece.

This book should've been made by the BBC into a TV series, the style, pacing and docudrama orientation are perfect for them. Americans tend to turn everything into an action script based on a small group of characters or single hero. That isn't what the book was about and that's what made the book unique in it's approach to the zombie genre. With all due respect to Brad Pitt, he's not the center of this particular universe, Brooks deliberately steered clear from a single hero narrative, the main character is all of humanity and not a single hero.
I think this movie is in trouble because the direction is so different from the basic premise. They're doing rewrites because this a whole different story and they don't have a blueprint which works well within the framework of the original material.

I saw Promethues.
The holes in the plot etc you could drive a battlestar through.
The stupidity of the characters was beyound belief.
If the people who caused that wreck of a movie have anything to do with WWZ, I fear for the movie.

Maybe someone should ask mr Brooks for permission to film his book, seeing as no one else seems to be doing it at the moment.

I get the feeling that Brooks maybe regretting is signing over all the film rights to the book without creative control or creative approval. But he admitted he doesn't have experience with screenplays and trusted the studio to do this right. Looks like he's learning the hard way how Hollywood operates. His dad(Mel Brooks) could've given him a lot of advice on this score.
WWZ is a trainwreck at $170 million in costs and counting. Could be the next John Carter in terms of expensive flops.

I've read the book, and it's more ordinary than a masterpiece.
