It's a mediocre week for DVD releases but among them are Bobcat Goldwait's trigger happy satire God Bless America (review, amazon link) and the Blu-ray release of the scifi cult classic Barbarella! (amazon link) A few more below.

Django, Kill ... If you live, shoot! (amazon link)
Starring Tomas Milian, Django, Kill .., another entry in the Django canon, blends horror with the western with some graphic violence and sexual depravity.

The Hunter (amazon link)
This Willem Dafoe starrer turns on a man.. being hunted. (review)

Finally saw God Bless America last night. It hit me similar to Falling Down (right in the gut) but with a more timely and hard-edged punch. This was a heavy, dark film. Bobcat is a genius and his films hold up a dark mirror to us all. The leads are not black and white. The male lead seems to be not-quite-successfully deluding himself as to his real motivations while the female sidekick is completely oblivious to the fact that she is playing an active part in what she claims to hate. Are their acts symptoms or reactions to the false impersonal media reality? Is the only reaction to a sensationalist media culture to create a sensational media event? If your only tool is a hammer, all of your problems look like nails.
A few scenes made me want to cry or to feel guilty because I laughed but the ending made me feel oddly good, like the ending of Devil's Rejects. I can't wait to see what Bobcat does next.
