Quiet Earth Bunker

I know most of you are going to say M. Night Shyamalan is long past his prime. I STRONGLY disagree as The Lady in Water and The Village were his two strongest films in my opinion. That said, scientologist (ugh) Will Smith stars with his son Jaden in this adventure set on a post apocalyptic Earth. Not being a Smith fan makes my spidey senses tingle. What do you think?
In After Earth, one thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind’s new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige (played by Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (played by Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai’s craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.

I was liking it until "As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon."
Maybe swap the two characters positions then I'll like it again.

Exactly! I don't hate Will he can be cool. But as soon as I read that I said welp, not for me. Jaden is a waste.

Why does this setup remind me of an old animated feature called "Les Maîtres du temps?" (That's Time Master for those who remember it in the English world.)
Crash land on hostile planet, father dies in cockpit, son looks for beacon etc, etc.
René Laloux and Jean Giraud (Moebius) are two great tastes that go great together.
This movie...not so much.

Yet another excuse for Will Smith to shoehorn his kid into a movie. I'll pass.
guido_jenkins (11 months ago) Reply
noting new to say as you all pretty much covered it already...what a shame as I AM a Shamalama fan....his casting of the Smith clan will prevent me from watching this one...
Num3rz (11 months ago) Reply
wow...def not gunna watch this once i read "the kid gets to be a soldier" :S yuky poo!! too bad, i almost had hoped for finally a decent movie from M Night Shamalamadingdong!!
Ozzfather (11 months ago) Reply
No longer a M. Night fan.... and Smith's luster ran out way back in the Wild Wild West days. Sick of him, and that goes double for his kids.
