Marina Antunes [Film Festival 07.26.12] Sweden drama

So here's the deal with Jesper Ganslandt's Blondie, which will have its world premiere in competition at Venice Film Festival: it's the story of three sisters who return to their childhood home when their mother arranges a big party. It doesn't sound like anything of particular note and the opening moments of the trailer certainly don't suggest anything spectacular but once the film's title appears over a carefully composed family photograph, the tone changes. All of a sudden, this feels remarkably like a horror movie.

I doubt there will be much horror on display here but Ganslandt's film does suggest a fantastic family drama (reminiscent of Thomas Vinterberg's The Celebration), great performances and some gorgeous cinematography. Catfights extra.
