Honestly, I've never known what the deal is with Harmony Korine and at this point, I've stopped trying to figure it out choosing instead to take Korine as a guy who plays around with ideas and occasionally strikes gold. What's best is that he keeps at it and that alone is enough for me to give the guy a chance. And who knows, he may actually strike gold again and what's best... it looks like we may not have long to wait for it to happen.

His new venture Spring Breakers is one of the nuttiest things we've been tracking for a while, mostly because it's such a hodgepodge of actors in a story that seems straight forward enough but that is bound to have some interesting twists.


James Franco stars as Alien, a renowned drug and arms dealer who takes under his wing a crew of girls who find themselves stuck in jail after attempting to rob a restaurant in hopes of funding their spring break adventure. Now with Alien as their sugar daddy, they're going to experience a spring break they will never forget. As for the rag tag group of would-be con girls: Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, Rachel Korine, Heather Morris and Gucci Mane. Yes, the world is about to implode: Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens are in a movie together. The only thing this is missing is Miley Cyrus for a trifecta of twenty-something teen queens to be complete.

Spring Breakers will have its world premiere at Venice on September 5th before heading for a run at TIFF and worry not, festivals won't be the only place to see this. Breaking news is that Annapurna Pictures has acquired the movie and though it's likely to have limited appeal, this cast nearly guarantees that it will see some sort of theatrical distribution.

No trailer yet but we have two clips from the movie. The first features Selena Gomez waxing poetic on the boredom of life while the second clip has Franco going on about how he has everything. One thing is certain, between these two clips, I'm more than ready to see this. Looks like Korine is firing on all cylinders here.
