Marina Antunes [Bunker Blueprint 04.08.13] action video game

There are few video games that make me giddy with joy and none quite as much as "Street Fighter." Chun-Li's power kick was only part of the joy - I have magical memories about standing in front of the "Street Fighter II" arcade game for hours at a time - and when the Hollywood movies failed to live up to expectation, even the action sequences left a whole lot to be desired, it was a given that we'd never see a good Street Fighter movie. And then Joey Ansah came to the rescue.

In 2010 he released a three minute fan movie which delivered everything fans had hoped for but had yet to see. There's been talk since then about Ansah doing a movie or a webseries and though it looks like development has continued, there had been no news on the production until now that Ansah and co-wirter and star Christian Howard have launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of a webseries. The group purchased rights from Capcom last year and have their blessing for the upcoming project Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist. They've put aside an original story which they're saving for a bigger budget production (read: movie) and focusing the series on the Ansatsuken characters of Ryu, Ken, Goken, Goki/Akuma and Gotetsu in "a coming of age story for Ryu and Ken as boys become men; told in parallel with the dark tale of the generation that came before them, filled with tragedy, loss and heartbreak."

It sounds great and Ansah has already proven that he knows how to deliver what the fans want and who knows, if it's successful, one of these days we'll get a really good Street Fighter movie. If you're a fan and want to contribute, you can do so here while the 2010 short and Kickstarter campaign video (worth seeing for the Hadoken concept fx alone!) are below.
