A couple of years ago, the Strause Brothers came barrelling in with an alien invasion movie named Skyline. The indie came and went with little fanfare, a small blip on the radar of bigger budgeted late year action and though reception was mostly cold, I really liked what the Strause's presented: a fun, good looking fatalistic invasion tale that had no need for Hollywood's happy endings.

Early after the movie's release there were rumours that a Skyline sequel was in the works but in the years since, we haven't seen much in the way of progress until now.

News out of the Cannes market is that the sequel, titled Beyond Skyline, is coming care of first time director Liam O'Donnell who co-wrote the script for the first movie and has some effects credits for AVP: Requiem, Iron Man 2 and The Bay (review).

Hydraulx Entertainment, who have done effects work for all manner of big budget releases, will be back for the sequel so there's a good chance that if nothing else, Beyond Skyline will look really awesome though I expect that with O'Donnell's involvement, it'll be a heck of a lot of fun to watch too.

We'll be keeping you abreast of details as they develop but for now, click below for the first bit of concept art.

I saw Skyline and was disappointed. There was no way for humans to fight the aliens who were near omnipotent. What is the point in this movie if there is no chance of survival? Might as well kill yourself rather than let the aliens harvest your brain. I don't see why you need a sequel when in the first movie the aliens had conquered the entire earth in only a few days.
