Futuristic movies in which water is a scarce commodity aren't exactly new or few and far between but it's always interesting to see a new take on the sub-genre and while we eagerly await George Miller's upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road (stills), it looks like we could do far worse than Jake Paltrow's Young Ones.

Paltrow's film also unfolds in a future where water is scarce and the land has turned to sand but the story suggests there's some strange "Dune" like activity going on with a woman who may or may not have the answers to solving the water problem. Or at least that's what I gather from the stark first trailer that also features some dreamlike elements. The second, a French trailer which has also emerged, suggests the movie is far more straight forward – a story of two men fighting to save their families. Either way this actually turns out, it appears the look of Paltrow's film is a thing of beauty.

Aside from the movie's striking appearance, it includes a stellar cast led by the great Michael Shannon with Elle Fanning, Nicholas Hoult and Kodi Smit-McPhee also starring.

Young Ones was picked up shortly after its Sundance premiere and is scheduled for release sometime in October.
