Marina Antunes [Celluloid 07.14.14] Canada horror

The writing, producing and directing team of Cody Calahan and Chad Archibald are at it again. Last year the pair co-wrote and Calahan directed Antisocial which I rather liked, and now the pair are switching gears with Calahan co-writing and Archibald directing The Drownsman.

The synopsis reads a little like Flatliners with a twist:

After almost drowning in a lake, Madison finds herself bound to a life of fear. Madison's friends attempt an unconventional intervention in which they accidentally open a floodgate to a dark place where none of them are safe. As Madison and her friends dive deeper into the dark history of this figure that haunts them, it reaches out and begins dragging them to a horrifying place that they can never come back from.

The first teaser doesn't reveal much of plot but I do like the look of it and having enjoyed the duo's earlier project, I'm curious to see how this one plays out.

The Drownsman will have its world premiere at Fantasia on August 2.
