Marina Antunes [Celluloid 06.29.15] France drama experimental arthouse

Argentinean director Gaspar Noé isn't exactly afraid of controversy and over the years, the release of a new Noé movie is usually accompanied by some minor blip of media ruckus. This time around, the button pusher set out to direct what appears to be the world's first 3D porn.

Love premiered at Cannes to a wide mix of reviews and our own correspondent didn't care much for the movie calling it both mediocre and "pseudo artistic." I can't say that surprises me much. I've always found Noé makes movies you "experience." They don't necessarily have a strong story narrative but there's a dreamlike (or nightmare) quality to them that gets under the skin and festers.

With Love, Noé sets out to capture a sexual relationship in all it's sticky glory. The purpose? That remains to be seen but I'm sure we'll get a chance to figure it out when Love opens later this year. For the time being, check out the explicit trailer which has hit the web in advance of the movie's French release on July 15.
