Christopher Webster [Celluloid 12.11.15] scifi horror thriller adventure

Filmmaker and friend to Quiet Earth, Grzegorz Jonkajtys, dropped us a line to let us know about this amazing new project hinging on Cryptozoology, a pseudoscience involving the search for mythical creatures -- in this case "The Ningyo."

The 25 minute short was successfully funded through Kickstater and this trailer gives us our first look at where some of that money went -- great atmosphere, creature FX and cinematography to name only a few of the great work on display here.

A 1909 period film pilot about "cryptozoology". The search for mythological or unproven creatures. A Faustian tale about losing oneself in the process of achieving our goals.

Professor Marlowe finds a piece of a map pointing to the place where the Ningyo, a mythical Japanese creature, could be found. The legend claims whomever consumes its flesh will attain remarkable longevity. He presents the project to his peers, who mock and dismiss him as a fraud. He decides to risk everything and go after the Ningyo on his own in hopes to bring to light what could be one of the greatest contributions to science. What he could not anticipate is that, in his search, he is confronted with a choice that puts the very foundations of his morality to the test.

The film is directed by Miguel Ortega and stars Rodrigo Lopresti, Gabe Fazio and Jerry Lacy.

We currently don't know when the entire short will hit, but the team hopes it will spur interest in a series or feature film.
