Marina Antunes [Celluloid 01.11.16] Argentina drama adventure

Between the review and trailer we saw early last year for Embrace of the Serpent, it was clear that Colombian director Ciro Guerra' new movie was something on a whole other level. We've been patiently waiting for any word on the movie's upcoming release and now we've got a date, along with a spiffy new trailer.

Guerra's movie is ostensibly about two scientist who work together over the course of 40 years scouring the Amazon for a sacred healing plant but it's also about much more than that; it's also a tale about humanity, religion, belief, the cosmos and where we fit in the grand scheme of things. It's a movie about the big questions.

The new trailer continues to impress with its stunning black and white photography and breathtaking views of the Amazon. This looks part documentary, part horror movie and part Terrence Malick but with plot.

Embrace of the Serpent opens February 17.
