Marina Antunes [Celluloid 07.23.16] horror

A few months ago we got a first look at Adam Wingard's upcoming new horror film The Woods and we were rightfully excited. The teaser suggested some great things to come not to mention it comes to us from from the man behind The Guest and You're Next, both super solid thrillers.

At San Diego Comic Con earlier today, Wingard presented a shinny new trailer for the upcoming horror film along with another surprise; a new title: Blair Witch. Yes, you read right. Adam Wingard's upcoming horror film is none other than a Blair Witch Project sequel and from what we've seen from the first teaser and from this new trailer, this new sequel is far more in line with Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Myrick's original movie.

Written by Wingard's longtime collaborator Simon Barrett the story follows a group of college students who go into the Black Hills Forest trying to uncover the mystery surround the disappearance of a woman, a mystery who many believe is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch...

At first the group is hopeful, especially when a pair of locals offer to act as guides through the dark and winding woods, but as the endless night wears on, the group is visited by a menacing presence. Slowly, they begin to realize the legend is all too real and more sinister than they could have imagined.

Admittedly, I'm not quite as excited about the project now that I know it's a sequel but Wingard and Barrett are both talented artists who have a proven track record and these trailers are still looking pretty great.

Blair Witch opens September 16.

At least now I won't keep confusing this with "Into the Forest".
