Well, if you're going to remake an 80s action movie, you could do a lot worse than Kickboxer - especially with the current popularity of UFC and MMA. So here we have it: Kickboxer: Vengeance an update of the 1989 classic which originally starred JCVD as Kurt Sloane. This time around, the action star returns as the master while newcomer Alain Moussi takes on the role of student.

Directed by John Stockwell (a personal favourite of mine with credits which include Crazy/Beautiful, Blue Crush, Into the Blue and Turistas), Kickboxer: Vengeance sees Sloane travel to Thailand to avenge the death of his brother at the hands of the vicious fighter Tong Po (Dave Bautista) but not before training with Master Durand (Van Damme).

Kickboxer: Vengeance also features a long laundry list of MMA superstars including Gina Carano, Georges St-Pierre, Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum.

Admittedly, I don't expect much from in the way of drama from this but I do hope the movie delivers in the way of great fight sequences. They certainly have the odds stacked in their favour. That said, Bautista has shown himself to be a talented actor and JCVD certainly has his moments so who knows, maybe this will surpass expectacation.

Kickboxer: Vengeance will open in theaters and be available on VOD and digital HD on September 2.
