I must admit that considering the release of "American Gods" is just around the corner, I'm just not that excited about the project. I'm having a hard time putting my finger on exactly why that is but I have a feeling it may have something to do with the fact that I'm still not really sure what the show is about beyond the plot that has a guy named Shadow taking the job of bodyguard to a guy named Wednesday.

Based on Neil Gaiman's much-beloved novel, the show comes to us from Bryan Fuller (of "Hannibal," "Dead Like Me," "Wonderfalls" and "Dead Like Me" fame) and Michael Green (of the short-lived but amazing "Kings," "Heroes" and "Everwood") and stars Ricky Whittle ("The 100") as Shadow, Ian McShane as Wednesday as well as Gillian Anderson, Emily Browning, Dane Cook, Peter Stormare, Orlando Jones and Crispin Glover.

We've already seen a trailer for the show but with the UK release date now set, a new trailer has been released and though it re-treads some of what we've already seen, it also offers up a preview of the bloodier aspects of this story.

This trailer certainly got me more excited than the previously released material but I'm still mostly on board because of Fuller and Green. I hope they don't disappoint.

"American Gods" premieres in the US on Starz on April 30. The show will be premiere on Amazon Prime Video in the UK a day later on May 1.
