The BBC has ordered 11 new dramas and one of them has caught out eye. A Victorian-era adaptation of H.G. Wells' “The War of the Worlds,” from “Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell” writer Peter Harness.

The three-part mini-series will place the story in Dorking at the turn of the last century. It marks the first British television adaptation of the novel that Harness called “ground zero for all modern science fiction.” Filming is set to begin early next year.

The new slate was unveiled Thursday at an event in London co-hosted by BBC Director General Tony Hall and new controller of BBC Drama Piers Wenger.

There have been numerous adaptations of War of the Worlds including a TV series.

Stephen Spielberg's big screen version was released in 2005.
