Marina Antunes [Celluloid 08.09.19] horror thriller

Full admission: the concept of Sean William Scott, an actor best known for raunchy and outrageous comedies, in a horror movie doesn't immediately strike excitement but feature film debut Henry Jacobson looks really promising.

Bloodline stars Scott as Evan, a fiercely devoted family man who, by day, spends his time as a social worker, listening to and providing support to kids with difficult family lives.

After the arrival of his newborn son, Evan's passion for protecting children becomes an obsession and he's soon spending his nights as an avenging angel for the kids in his care.

Mariela Garriga and "The Leftovers" star Kevin Carroll also co-star.

I like the concept of Bloodline and Scott looks like he fits the role quite well, especially as the trailer suggests that even though the movie will tread some dark territory, there are also some moments of lucidity.

Bloodline opens theatrically and will be available on VOD September 20.

The key word there is "actor". As you know, some actors really do well in out of character roles. Maybe it's the newness of the role, or being able to show they're not a one trick pony, or just the fun of camping it up as the heavy.

What doesn't sound exciting is the plot. Although Scott's character reminds me of the psycho in the series The Fall played by Jamie Dornan.
