Listen. I'm still as disappointed as you are by the fact that Neil Marshall's Hellboy was such a mess but I still like much of Marshall's work and I'm always up for a dark and dirty period piece and The Reckoning appears to be just that.


Co-written by Marshall, Edward Evers-Swindell and Charlotte Kirk, who also co-stars, the movie unfolds during the Great Plague. Kirk plays Grace Haverstock, a woman accused of being a witch after the death of her husband. She's placed under the custody of England's most ruthless witch hunter Judge Moorcroft (Sean Pertwee) and under his watchful eye suffers great torture and physical suffering as well as mental anguish, all while fighting off the Devil himself.


The Reckoning also stars Joe Anderson and Steven Waddington.



I love a good bit Marshall's genre mashing and a horror movie about a witch hunt complete with the Devil making an appearance is totally up my alley and as we see in this first clip from the movie, he's looking very much like Tim Curry in Legend (a look that has become quite popular for "The Devil" this year).


The Reckoning managed to play a number of festivals earlier this year and is on route to a theatrical, digital and VOD release on February 5.
